Alma Marie (Redick) McKoon, 84, Paola, died suddenly at her home on March 17, 2014.

Alma was born on August 6, 1929, near Gridley, Kansas, to the late John Ray and Cecile Beatrice (James) Redick. She was the second of eight children. Alma married Eldon Warren McKoon on June 7, 1947 in Osawatomie, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband on January 11, 2002 after celebrating over 54 years of marriage.

Born to this union, were four children Maxine (Rick) Montague of Coppell, Texas, Merle (Diane) McKoon, Marla (Randall) Dilliner, and Warren (Rita) McKoon all of Paola. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 5 step great-grandchildren, and one deceased great-grandson.

Alma was a 1947 graduate of Osawatomie High School. She was a member of the Plum Creek Methodist Church for over 50 years and the treasurer of U.M.W. for many years. She loved to cook and served many of the church dinners.

She was a homemaker and helped her husband on the farm where they lived their entire married life. She loved to crochet, quilt, and sew and made many clothes, baby quilts, Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, and sock monkeys for all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She crocheted tablecloths for each of her children and many Christmas and wedding gifts were doilies that she made. She also crocheted and donated to her church a large wall hanging of the “Lord’s Prayer” and the curtains for every window of the church.

Alma was well known for her cinnamon rolls, homemade rolls, and donuts that she made on many occasions for her families’ many dinners and church events.

She also leaves behind her siblings: sisters Joyce Rogers of Mulvane, Betty (John) Willis of Udall, and Sondra (Lyle) Brown of Richmond and brothers Bob Redick of Lawrence and Jerry (Lori) Redick of Lebanon, Missouri. She has two deceased brothers, Donald who died in 1981 and Rowe Dean in 2011.

Alma will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.

Memorial donations can be made to Miami County Cancer Foundation or Plum Creek Methodist Church.
